Cuban Speaks and More

On July 8th, 2010 at about 9:27pm, what were you doing.. oh wait never mind that question. I think we all know what happened on that Thursday evening. LeBron James announced his decision to “take his talents to South Beach” and join Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to complete super team.

On September 15, 2010 another man voiced his opinion about what seems to be an epic “decision”. After hearing many voicing their opinions about the so-called “King”, Mark Cuban followed people such as; Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Stan Van Gundy, Otis Smith and many others about LeBron James decision to move to Miami.

Take that LeBron

“LeBron has every right to go wherever and do whatever, whatever team he wants to,” Cuban said. “Going to the Heat was his choice, those guys working together. I don’t even have a problem with the three of them working together, as long as they follow all of the NBA rules, which I think they did.

However, what he did have a problem with was the common answer anymore; how he did it.

“Where I think LeBron made a mistake, was in how he did it. I don’t even have a problem that he had the TV show. But it turned out to be the largest public humiliation in the history of sports. He humiliated the organization, he humiliated the state of Ohio , the city of Cleveland. All of a sudden he became a bad guy, he lost a billion dollars in brand equity, give or take a couple bucks here or there”.

Mark Cuban also voiced how much he felt that LeBron James made a decision to leave Cleveland but left for the wrong team.

“I told his folks that I think he got bad advice. It’s not about ‘Can he move?’ He can move, he can play for any team. I think he picked the wrong team (chuckles). There’s a team in Dallas that could have used him and that would have been better served but it’s his choice. But the way he did it I thought was just a huge mistake.”

Isn’t amazing how much one players decision to play for a team would cause so much aftermath? Or is it more amazing that this player hasn’t even won one championship yet?

Other Notes

–The Cavaliers hired David Griffin as VP of Basketball Operations this past week. This after Griffin declined job offers from Denver, and the Suns.

–Here is something funny for all the LeBron haters. Apparently LeBron was headed to the Miami, Ohio State football game this past Saturday as everyone already knew. While headed to the game he asked for the entire Columbus police crew and Ohio State Campus security to protect him during the game. The police department told him they will give him one officer and Ohio State campus security told him no. Good for them, it’s about time that LeBron realizes people aren’t going to bow down to his feet anymore.

Keep your heads up Cleveland,

Jake Dorow
